Key West Vacation Rental
- Historic Private Home.
The Key West Golden Heron is a Gold Star Landmark
home, walking distance to the beaches, shopping and famous Duval
Street, yet quietly situated in Old Town.
One
of the most spacious and charming high-end
homes on the island, the
Golden Heron has been a Key West landmark
for many years. Originally the neighborhood grocery store (circa 1906),
this home affords an ideal corporate/executive retreat. It is larger and more unique than many other 4 or 5 bedroom private homes on the island.
Many famous personages have visited the property over the last 100 years, as have many events transpired. In 1955, it served
as one of the locations for Tennessee William's Oscar-winning film "The
Rose Tattoo". Architecturally, this
building exemplifies the unique style of construction found in
historic Key West homes. In 1999 the Golden Heron was awarded a Gold
Star by the Old Island Restoration Foundation. It was one of only
5 homes selected on the island, and over 1100 people toured the
property. It was also selected as a showcase Key West home in the
2007 House and Garden Tour.
With its 11 foot high ceilings, Dade County
Pine post and beam construction, beautiful mahogany doors and shutters,
a multitude of glass doors and windows designed to admit maximum light
while minimizing heat, and wrap around overhang for the sidewalks, the
property allows you to experience what Key West living must have been
like in by-gone eras (only now with the help of central air-conditioning). The
brand new, in-ground pool and spa heats to 104 degrees and boasts a 14'
wide waterfall with grotto. The lanai features beautiful Brazilian teak
decking and the gourmet kitchen just renovated features subzero refrigerator,
Wolf stove, Bosch dishwasher and Dacor microwave with Uba Tuba granite
and solid cherry cabinetry.
The
property is a Key West landmark and is situated in Old Town on the corner
of Georgia & Virginia
Streets. It looks out upon Bayview Park and enjoys wonderful breezes
and a fine location convenient to everything.
The
Golden Heron consists of four bedrooms, 5 beds (3 king-size beds, 1 queen size bed plus a full size new sofa sleeper),
2 full baths and two half-baths in the main house, plus a large 1 bedroom 1 bath guest apartment which can be blended
into the main house for larger groups (offering 6 total beds).
The interior
of this house has been custom hand-painted. The bathrooms and kitchen
have been completely remodeled. The house blends wicker, rattan,
teak & mahogany furnishings and the uniquely Key West artwork,
providing guests with a spacious yet tranquil surrounding designed
to create a luxurious and memorable vacation to this island paradise.
